The Hoherodskopf is the local mountain of Schotten and with 764 m above sea level the second highest peak in the Vogelsberg. It offers an impressive view all the way to the Rhine-Main area and the Taunus. In addition, young and old can let off steam in a climbing forest. The Vogelsberg is known for its excellently signposted hiking and biking trails. You can cycle on the "Vulkanradweg" (volcano cycle path) without having to climb steep inclines, because it was built on former railroad tracks. For bathing and water sports enthusiasts, the Niddastausee lake, which is only 6 km away, invites you to swim, fish, sail and surf. Schotten itself is a typical, Hessian half-timbered town with a charming townscape but also numerous opportunities to linger, eat and store. The Vulkaneum provides multimedia information about the geological history of the Vogelsberg.
